 Announcement

April 2, 2008 -The TSA welcomes David Morgan to the position of League Director on the Board. David has been a soccer fan (Como, Italy! and now TFC) since he was a teenager. He became involved with Swansea Soccer Club in 1995 when his eldest son started playing. He has coached and managed for most of the ensuing years. In 2002, he became Registrar for Swansea and by 2004 he was President. He had volunteered to act as a YDSL rep on the League Management Committee but will now take on the responsibilities of League Director. In his ‘spare time’, he works as a Network Analyst for the City of Mississauga. Dave has been observing the growth and maturing of soccer in Toronto and wants to be a part of it! Please welcome Dave.

The TSA was saddened to learn of the passing of Frank Espinoza, TSA Publicity and Promotions Director and President of Toronto Central Soccer Club on Dec 6th, 2007 of a heart attack.  He will be missed.

TSA Spring I.D. Tournament

The Toronto Soccer Association is pleased to announce that it will be running a Spring I.D. Tournament as part of the Under I I and Under 12 Boys and Girls District Program. The U11 tournament will be held on May 11th , 2008 at Sunnybrook Park. A panel of district, regional and club coaches will observe the games and make player recommendations for the District Program. The U11 Tournament will be used to identify and select approximately 60 boys and 60 girls to participate in the Summer Program.

The salient parameters of the I.D. tournament are as follows:

· All players must be registered with the Toronto Soccer Association

· All Under 11 teams playing in the TDYSL L5 league are invited to participate

· Clubs that have multiple teams playing in the TDYSL U11 age group may choose not to send every team. In such a circumstance, selected players from the non-participating teams may be added to the team(s) that is(are) attending. These players can only be added to the Program Roster of a team within the same club

· Any player within a club that is not an active member of the U11 team participating in the Tournament and is age and gender appropriate, can be added to the district program's roster pending approval by the Club Head Coach and District Staff

· Clubs must confirm participation in the I.D. Camp by May 5th , 2008 indicating the number and names of the teams that will be participating in each gender grouping

· Clubs must submit a team roster with corresponding numbers to the District by May 8th, 2008.

· To help with the selection process. Coaches will he asked to identify the top 3 players on each team by putting an asterisk beside their name on the team roster. If the goalkeeper is one of the top three players, an additional field player may be identified

· Each U11 team will play two 40 minute game

· Selected players will be contacted through their club

Dates, times, and field locations for the Under 11 Spring ID tournament will be available on the TSA web site once all teams have confirmed their participation.

Please ensure that you forward the number and names of the teams that will be participating (including their age and gender) by e-mail to fields@torontosoccer.net with a copy to the District Head Coach, Toronto Soccer Association by May 4. 2008. Completed team rosters with corresponding player numbers must be submitted no later than May 8, 2008.

I would like to thank everyone that participated in the development of the I.D. tournament and District Program. The insight, positive comments and collaborative approach were instrumental in ensuring the program is moving in the right direction. I look forward to continuing the dialogue with the clubs in order to further enhance the program in the future. Once again thank you for your support.

Regards

Patrick Lowe
District Head Coach

re Soccer City Status

Due to a significant amount of unpaid player fees owed to the Toronto Soccer Association, Soccer City is no longer a member in good standing of the Association.
